Only visually verified on macOS, Windows appearance has not been confirmed by the author.
This project is a visual theme for the desktop version of OpenAI's Codex app, styled after the look of QQ, a popular Chinese messaging app, from around 2007. It does not change how Codex works, only how it looks, giving it a nostalgic skin. The theme is distributed as a single downloadable file with the extension codedrobe theme, and its authenticity can be checked against a published SHA 256 checksum before installing. It is built for and tested mainly on macOS, and the README notes that the Windows version of Codex has not yet been visually verified with this theme, so results there may not look correct. Applying the theme requires a separate tool called CodeDrobe Core, run through npx, which is a way of running a small program without permanently installing it. The recommended version is 0.3.0, and Node.js version 22.4 or newer is required. After downloading the theme file into your Downloads folder and fully closing Codex, a command is run to inspect the theme file, followed by another command to apply it to the Codex app. Alternatively, a user can drag the theme file into Codex itself and ask it, in a suggested message, to check, apply, and verify the theme using CodeDrobe Core. A verification command is also provided that reopens Codex, applies the theme, and saves a screenshot so you can confirm it worked. If you want your original Codex appearance back, a separate restore command removes the applied theme. The README notes that CodeDrobe applies the theme while Codex is running and does not modify or resign the underlying application package, though future updates to Codex's interface could require the theme to be adjusted.
A nostalgic QQ 2007 style visual theme for the OpenAI Codex desktop app, applied through a separate theming tool without modifying Codex itself.
Setup difficulty is rated easy, with roughly 5min to a first successful run.
