Requires the exact old Blocklauncher Pro version paired with Minecraft PE 0.11.1.
Better 0.11 is a small modification, known as an addon, for Minecraft Pocket Edition version 0.11.1. It changes gameplay to fix problems the maker felt were bugs or unwanted design choices in that specific old version of the game. The addon is built as a native mod that works together with an app called Blocklauncher. The changes cover a wide range of small tweaks. Villages now generate with gravel paths instead of dirt paths, and the game no longer lets players accidentally turn grass into dirt paths themselves. Skin packs are removed to avoid in game purchases. Boats move over twice as fast, matching their speed on the PC version of Minecraft rather than the slower mobile speed. Several creature and item behaviors are adjusted too: zombies no longer drop rotten flesh, raw chicken no longer causes a hunger effect even though there is no hunger bar yet in this version, and baby squids can no longer spawn. The addon also removes andesite, diorite, and granite blocks along with their crafting recipes, aiming to recreate an earlier, simpler version of Minecraft. A handful of known bugs from this era of Minecraft Pocket Edition are patched as well, including a visual glitch that darkens players standing under certain blocks, a bug that teleported players upward after rejoining a game in a tight space, and a crash caused by mushroom islands. Furnace item descriptions, which were missing in this version, are restored, and several ores that could not be smelted before, including coal, lapis, and redstone, can now be smelted. To use the addon you need Minecraft Pocket Edition 0.11.1 installed, along with a specific older version of the Blocklauncher Pro app, since the two need to work together. The project also documents how to build the addon from source using specific versions of the Android NDK and related build tools, for anyone who wants to modify it further.
