Requires the Codex App installed, only copy the individual pet folder, not the whole repo.
awesome_pets is a small collection of custom virtual pets for the Codex App, a coding assistant application from OpenAI. The idea is to make the app feel more cheerful by adding animated companions you can install and interact with while you work. The first pet included is Nai Frog, described as a cheerful, round yellow frog with a cream belly, bright green eyes, and a signature belly-holding laugh animation. Each pet is packaged as a folder containing a pet.json metadata file, which describes the pet and its animation settings, along with a spritesheet image file that provides the actual animation frames. To install a pet, you clone the repository, then copy the specific pet's folder, such as naifrog, into the Codex App's custom pets directory, usually located at a hidden .codex folder in your home directory. After copying the files, you refresh the pet list inside the app's settings and select the new pet to activate it. The README is careful to note that you should copy just the individual pet folder, not the whole repository, since the app expects to find the pet's files directly inside its own folder. The project is early-stage, with Nai Frog described as only the first companion, and more pets planned for future updates. No license has been added yet, so all rights currently remain with the repository owner, meaning others should not assume they can freely reuse or redistribute the pet files.
