GRoute is a free Android app that helps people get around internet restrictions in their country. It is built on top of Xray-core, an existing engine for tunneling traffic, and wraps it in a clean app interface available in both English and Persian. It supports several different tunneling protocols, VLESS, VMess, Trojan, and Shadowsocks, along with a number of transport methods like TLS, WebSocket, and gRPC that help the connection blend in with normal internet traffic. To use it, you add servers either by pasting individual server links, by pasting a subscription link that imports many servers at once and can auto-refresh on a schedule, or by registering a free Cloudflare WARP configuration in one tap. You can test all your servers for speed and pick the fastest one automatically, then connect with a single tap, after granting Android's VPN and notification permissions. The app includes several features specifically aimed at defeating network censorship: it can split TLS handshakes to avoid detection by deep packet inspection, it can detect the real domain behind a connection to help servers connect correctly, and it includes a built in scanner that finds working Cloudflare IP addresses for servers that rely on Cloudflare fronting. It also has a split routing mode so that local, in-country websites connect directly instead of going through the tunnel, a per-app option to choose exactly which apps use the VPN, an internet quality test that rates your connection for gaming, browsing, streaming, or video calls, and simple charts of your data usage over time. It is written in Kotlin using Jetpack Compose for the interface, and is distributed as a downloadable APK file rather than through the Play Store, so you need to allow installing apps from outside the store the first time. The app has no accounts, analytics, or advertising, and keeps all server settings and usage data only on your device. It is released under the GPL-3.0 license, while the bundled Xray-core engine keeps its own separate MPL-2.0 license.
