in plain english

make-playbook is a Claude Code skill that turns the indie hacker startup advice from Pieter Levels' book MAKE into a structured tool you can actually consult while building your own app, rather than a book you read once and forget. It organizes the whole journey of building a small, self funded project into seven stages: idea, build, launch, grow, monetize, automate, and exit. Each stage has its own reference file containing original checklists and diagnostic questions, not quotes or summaries from the book itself. Instead of giving you generic advice, the assistant is meant to ask these questions about your specific app, so that when you say you are stuck on launch, or trying to decide on pricing, or wondering whether to sell your project, it walks you through a tailored plan based on where you actually are. There is also a template file for tracking your own project's progress through these stages over time, similar to a system the book itself recommends. Once installed, you can invoke it directly with a command, or simply mention what you are working on naturally, such as saying you just launched or you are stuck on growth, and it will trigger automatically. The project is explicitly described as a companion tool inspired by the book rather than a replacement for it, and the author encourages buying the actual book if you want the deeper stories and numbers behind the ideas. To install it, you clone the repository into your Claude Code skills folder, and it becomes available across all of your projects after restarting. Since it is just plain markdown files with simple structure, other AI tools that support a similar custom instructions or knowledge file setup can also use it by pointing at the same folder. It is released under the MIT License for the skill and tooling itself.
