This project, called apc40mkii-kit, is a kit that lets an AI agent like Claude build visual show compositions and controller layouts inside Resolume, a video performance program used by VJs, through a connection method called MCP. It targets one specific hardware controller, the Akai APC40 mkII, and gives it a full matching visual composition so every button, fader, and knob on the physical controller has a corresponding item on screen that lights up and moves along with it. The stable part of the kit is a verified composition file with 148 controls and a matching MIDI preset with 203 shortcuts, built entirely from Resolume's own built in sources, meaning no extra video clip files are needed to use it. Alongside that is a set of nine copy paste prompts that a person can hand to an AI agent to have it build the same kind of controller layout against their own composition and hardware, or even a different controller entirely, with the agent researching that hardware's layout on its own. An experimental section, kept separate under a beta folder, contains earlier audio reactive compositions and custom video plugins built with the FFGL plugin format. There are two ways to use this. A person who just wants to play can follow a short install guide: download the controller preset file, copy it into a specific Resolume folder, open the included composition file, and turn the APC40 mkII on as both an input and output device inside Resolume's MIDI preferences, which takes about ten minutes with no coding or AI involved. Alternatively, someone who wants an agent to build or customize things can install Resolume, install Claude, connect a Resolume MCP server that lets the agent see and control the software, then copy one of the included prompt files to the agent and watch it carry out the steps, asking before it saves any changes. This is aimed at VJs and people who perform with visuals live, who want a working controller setup without manually building nearly 150 layers and over 200 shortcuts by hand. The project is licensed under MIT, and was tested specifically on Resolume Avenue 7.27 with Resolume MCP 7.26 on Windows 11.
